For those looking for entertainment, there will be bits of that here although I'm not so sure yet how I'll go about this "entertainment" thing. But I assure you that this blog will be filled with links, downloadables and test-yourself questions that will help you, in some way, improve your understanding of the world of chemistry.

Good morning BSMT!

Today is Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

There were 94 students out of 125 who were able to take the online test yesterday. Thank you 🙏🏼 and congratulations 🥳 to all of you for your perseverance and resolve in accomplishing school work in spite of the difficulty 👏🏼🥰👍🏼  I'll be releasing your scores via email once all 125 of you have taken the test.

There were some of you who emailed me to ask to take the test today. I shall, again, open the test from 1PM to 5PM later today to accommodate these requests. Also, quite a few of you have asked to take the test at midnight as this is the time your internet connection is faster. I will also open the test from 10PM to 3AM tonight 😴🌛✨

To My BSMT Classes

Hi guys!

As announced earlier, our next topic is Gravimetric Analysis. I hope by this time you already have an idea what this analytical method is about. This was introduced to you in Chapter 1. A more detailed explanation of this method is discussed in the powerpoint presentation below. Just click the image to download your copy of the presentation.



Please study the presentation. There are three (3) sample problems that were discussed thoroughly in the presentation. Steps in solving the problems are shown. Please study them and once you get the logic behind the solutions, try solving similar problems like 👉🏼 these 👈🏼.

I don't expect you to fully understand how problems on Gravimetric Analysis are solved. If you have questions, you may use the comment section below this post for your queries or send me an email. 

I'm not sure if we will still be able to conduct experiments on Gravimetric Analysis in the laboratory. To cover this part, I would like you to watch youtube videos. These video clips will at least give you an idea how gravimetric analysis is done inside the laboratory.

Hi everyone!

I have posted a 60-item TRUE or FALSE test 👉🏼 here 👈🏼. This test covers all the concepts we have discussed in Classical Methods of Chemical Analysis: Qualitative Tests.

Before taking the test, you are required to type in your EMAIL ADDRESS and NAME (Family Name, First Name) and tick your class' section. You have 40 minutes to finish and "submit" the test.

I have limited the number of test-takers to 125. This number corresponds to the total number of students in T1, T2, and T3 so please do not take the test more than once by entering another email address. You will be depriving others of their test slots.

The test will be available until 11:55 Monday night. For those who have no means to take the test online as scheduled, please email me here 👉🏼 mcabana@usi.edu.ph 👈🏼 once you already have a more stable internet connection. I will re-open the test for you. If it's really not possible for you to take the test online, I guess you will just have to take it when the quarantine is over. Please stay inside your houses and never go out looking for an internet cafe/shop just to carry out this task. Over and above school requirements, my utmost concern is your safety.

I hope everyone is healthy and safe. Let us all pray that this global "nightmare" will be over soon and we can go back to our normal routines.

I'm so impressed! 🥰 Despite the odds, all groups were able to accomplish and submit the flowcharts on time. Congratulations! 👍🏼

I will be posting here the link to the long test for Chapter 4 on Monday. Type of test? True or False. I'm still trying to understand how google classroom works, so please bear with me.

After the long test, the presentation for Gravimetric Analysis will be uploaded here in kemkorner. Gravimetric Analysis problems will employ your knowledge of mole concepts including balancing of chemical equations. We'll take our time on this one...

To My BSMT Analytical Chem Classes

Hi guys! I hope you're all in good health and staying at home as advised by the authorities 👍🏼😊😷

We definitely won't be able to perform the dreaded lab practical exams anymore (Yup, I can hear loud YESes!!! there 😃 ) Instead, I will be asking you to do these things this week.

1.  Prepare process flowcharts of the different methods / procedures that are chemically used to identify cations and anions. Use the lecture-presentation available 👉🏼 here 👈🏼 as basis for your flowcharts. Each group is expected to prepare at least 3 flowcharts. Two (2) for the cations and at least 1 for the anions.

2.  Prepare your process flowcharts online by signing up for a free account in

* 1 group, 1 account
* This free website will allow you to collaboratively prepare the flowcharts.

3.  Take screenshots of your flowcharts. Save them with filenames that include the following information: Section, Group No., Flowchart ID (exs. T1G1Cat1 or T2G1Cat2 or T3G1Anions)

4.  Upload your flowcharts 👉🏼 here 👈🏼 Make sure you upload files in your class section's folder.

5.  Flowcharts will be accepted until midnight this Friday, March 20, 2020.

6.  Everyone is expected to help in preparing the charts. Names of the group's members who did not participate in the preparation of the charts may be emailed to me at mcabana@usi.edu.ph.

7.  I will be posting instructions for the online long test in this blog on Monday.
